DO IT LIKE A LOCAL !!!
Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland, with a population of about 200,000. This is the only city where you practically have volcanos and glaciers „in the backyard“ ! The place was named Reykjavik, meaning „Smoky Bay“, by the first Viking to settle in Iceland – Ingólfur Arnarson. The reason is the columns of steam that rose from the hot springs in the area. Ingólfur settled in Reykjavik during the late 9th centurie A.D., according to the medieval Book of Settlements
The city is quiet during regular days in the winter and during weekends the nightlife takes completely over. In the summer (June, July and August) every day is „a Saturday“ as a greater part of visitors come to Iceland in those 3 months
We (the two families that run MyReykjavik) are born and raised in the Reykjavik area and we feel that there is a GREAT NUMBER of „things to do & see“ that only are visual to the locals (some even yet to be discovered by the locals).
